Welcome to GUITARMARTY

Thanks for stopping by. This site is a resource for my students as well as a place for news and information about the Rock School Summer Camps and the FINAL CONCERT.

I teach guitar and bass and I love it!. I can teach the basics of ukelele, mandolin and banjo, but my expertise is guitar. All styles, rock, blues, folk, fingerstyle, jazz, classical, gypsy jazz, funk, metal – I teach it all. My focus is fun at the beginning, I like to learn songs right away – each song has a lesson. We learn the facts as we go.

Because my schedule gets full I’ve recruited two teachers to help me accommodate as many potential players as possible. They areĀ  Parker Woods and Dan Keen. Parker is in Grade 12 in Tsawwassen and Dan is in grade 11 in Ladner. Both are excellent players and people that stick to my program. If you’ve been on my waitlist for a while now or heard that it was long, get in touch and if I can’t do it, we’ll get you going with one of these guys.

Part of the learning experience is performing. In June we have our year end show called EOTYJ (end of the year jam). Everyone plays something, sometimes with someone they don’t even know! It wasn’t mandatory, but I encourage all to participate. See this page for pics

We’re taking registrations for all students. Returning students should have an email from me directing you to the password protected schedule page. If you haven’t received it, it might have gone to your spam folder, ping me and I’ll resend. If you’re new and want to register for lessons, please complete the Registration Form.

Summer Rock School Camps

Having 50 guitar students made me realize that we have a lot of talent in this part of the world and there must be some drummers, bass players, keyboard players and singers who would like to play in a band with these 6 stringers.

Having spent half my life in a rehearsal I decided to pass along my experience and create a fun atmosphere for the young rockers of Ladner/Tsawwassen.

We had a great time at Rock School in 2006 and the kids learned a ton. I learned plenty too. We had our final concert at Sharkey’s Grill in November and it couldn’t have gone better! It was standing room only and the kids played their hearts out to the appreciation of the standing room only crowd.

In 2007 I had 5 bands so we needed more space for the final concert. We rented the Ladner Community Centre at the end of Oct and stepped up production with lights, a pro sound system and a pro sound man. We had over 200 people there and it was great. The kids all stepped up and put on a great show, playing to the best of their ability.

Have a look at the float we did in the Ladner May Days Parade in spring ’07 with the band Bleech.

In 2008 we had a few bands playing May Days at Memorial Park in Ladner and a few more at Sun Fest in Tsawwassen. We have every intention of doing the same again this year.

During the summer of ’08 we had 6 bands! The concert was shot and edited by Big Red Barn Productions. It turned out great and I’ve put each song on youtube.

In 2009 we had 8 bands and the final concert at the Ladner Community Centre was the best ever. One video from each band is our youtube page.

In summer 2011, I had 2 bands play the Festival for the Birds at Boundary Bay – opening for The Left.

I’m accepting applications for 2012. My challenge remains to put the same level/age of kids together. I don’t want a 15 year old bass player playing with a 10 year old drummer – s’not gonna work. When you register give me all your possible dates – that’ll give me the best chance to do it right.
